Kendall jumps into her mother's car and tries to calm her but realizes in alarm that Erica is reliving the horrible trauma which occurred on her fourteenth birthday. Meanwhile, at the boarding house, Michael tries to convince a frightened Bianca that he means her no harm. As the vision of Richard Fields' leering face looms over her, Erica regresses even further into the terrified child she once was. Fleeing out into the storm, Erica screams for her father as Kendall attempts to restrain her. Michael rants to Bianca about how her mother and sister have ruined his life, then informs his shuddering hostage that she is his last hope. Kendall finally manages to get Erica back to the penthouse, where she gently tends to her disoriented mother. Bianca's efforts to talk Michael into releasing her only succeed in enraging him anew. Realizing that Erica has mistaken her for Mona, Kendall assures the weeping woman that the rape was not her fault. Later, as she comes to her senses, Erica begs Kendall to forgive her for striking out at her. Michael forces Bianca to dance with him to Lena's favorite song. Erica and Kendall share a true mother-daughter bonding moment at long last. Bianca fights to get free but a menacing Michael corners her again.
